Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Eight Point Compass LLC, the company that operates Querent (“Querent,” “we,” “us”). By signing up for Querent at thequerent.xyz or using the service, you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy, SMS Terms, and Disclaimer— they’re part of the deal.

Who can use Querent

In short: US adults with their own US phone number.

To use Querent, you must:

  • Be 18 or older
  • Be a US resident with a US mobile phone number
  • Own the phone numberyou sign up with (don’t sign up someone else’s number)

What Querent is

In short: a daily reflection ritual delivered by text — not fortune-telling.

Each morning, Querent texts you a tarot card image and a short reading written by artificial intelligence. The readings are prompts for reflection based on tarot symbolism. They are not predictions. The cards don’t know anything about your life, your future, or anyone else’s.

You’re talking to an AI. When you text Querent, an AI system reads and responds to your messages. Humans may review some messages, as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may add, change, or remove features over time — for example, changing message timing or letting you ask questions on demand. If a change materially affects your subscription, we’ll tell you first.

Signing up and texting

In short: you consent on our website, confirm by replying YES, and can leave anytime with STOP.

Sign-up happens on our website: you enter your mobile number, optionally add details like your first name, and check a box consenting to receive texts. We then send one confirmation text; the service activates only after you reply YES.

Keyword commands work in any message, any time:

  • STOP — ends all texts and immediately cancels any paid subscription
  • HELP — reaches a human
  • CANCEL — texts you a link to your Stripe billing portal
  • START — re-enables texts after a STOP

Full texting details, including message frequency, are in our SMS Terms.

Billing and subscriptions

In short: some free draws to start, then a monthly subscription that renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel anytime; no refunds for partial months.

  • Free to start.Certain features are free — for example, your first 4 daily draws. After that, continuing requires a paid subscription. If you don’t subscribe, the messages simply stop. No spam, no pressure.
  • Automatic renewal. Querent is a monthly subscription that renews automatically each billing period until you cancel. The current price is shown at checkout before you pay. Billing is handled by Stripe; we never see your card number.
  • How to cancel. Text STOP or CANCEL, or use your Stripe billing portal. Cancellation takes effect immediately: texts stop right away, and you won’t be billed again.
  • No partial refunds. We don’t provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods. If you cancel mid-cycle, you simply won’t be charged again.
  • One free trial per person. If you cancel and later re-sign up, you won’t receive a second set of free draws.
  • Price changes. If we raise the price, we’ll notify you in advance, and the new price will apply only to billing periods after that notice. If you don’t agree, cancel before the new price takes effect.

Acceptable use

In short: be a normal, decent user of the service.

Don’t:

  • Abuse, harass, or send unlawful content through the service
  • Spam Querent or use it to send bulk or automated messages
  • Attempt to misuse, manipulate, or extract the underlying AI systems, or use the service to build a competing product
  • Interfere with the service’s operation or security

We may suspend or end accounts that break these rules.

Reflection, not advice

In short: Querent is for reflection and entertainment — never professional advice, and never a crisis service.

This matters enough to restate here, and it has its own page: our Disclaimer.

  • Querent is for reflection and entertainment. It is not medical, mental-health, legal, or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for professional care.
  • The AI can be wrong, generic, or miss context. Nothing Querent sends you is a prediction of the future.
  • Querent is not a crisis serviceand is not monitored around the clock. If you’re in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988(Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911.

Our content

In short: the card art and readings are ours (or our licensors’); enjoy them personally.

The deck artwork, readings, and everything else in the service belong to us or our licensors. You may use them for your own personal, non-commercial reflection. Please don’t resell or republish them.

Warranty disclaimer

In short: we work hard on Querent, but we provide it as-is.

Querent is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-interruption. We don’t promise that messages will always arrive on time or at all; carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Limitation of liability

In short: our responsibility is capped at what you’ve paid us in the last six months.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from the service. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amounts you paid us in the six months before the claim arose. Some states don’t allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Ending the service

In short: you can leave anytime; we can end or change the service with notice where required.

You can stop using Querent at any time by texting STOP. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, and we may discontinue the service; if we do, we’ll give reasonable notice and won’t bill you for periods after shutdown.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York, and you and we each consent to their jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms

In short: if the terms change in a way that matters, we’ll tell you first.

We may update these terms as Querent evolves. For material changes, we’ll notify you — by text or on our website — before they take effect. Continuing to use Querent after that means you accept the updated terms.
