Privacy Policy
In short: we collect only what we need to send you readings, we never sell your data, and you can ask us to delete everything at any time.
Querent is a text-message service that sends you a daily tarot card and a short AI-written reflection. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. It applies to our website at thequerent.xyz and to the Querent text-message service.
Our promise on mobile data, up front:
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
About the texts themselves: Querent sends your daily reading, plus replies when you text us and occasional account messages. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Full texting terms — including how to opt out — are in our SMS Terms.
What we collect
In short: your phone number, a few optional details you choose to share, your message history with us, and basic delivery records.
When you sign up and use Querent, we collect:
- Your mobile phone number. This is how we deliver the service.
- Optional details you provide, such as your first name, a short “about you” note, your timezone, and your deck choice.
- Your message history with Querent — the readings we send you and anything you text back.
- Subscription status. Payments are handled by Stripe; we see whether your subscription is active, but we never see or store your card number.
- Message delivery metadata, such as whether a text was delivered and when.
As we build new features, the details we collect may change. If we start collecting something meaningfully new, we’ll update this policy and let you know (see “Changes to this policy” below).
We do not collect precise location, contacts, or anything from your phone beyond the messages you send us.
How we use your information
In short: to send your readings, run the service, and keep you safe. Nothing else.
We use your information to:
- Deliver your daily card and reading at the right time for your timezone
- Understand and respond to messages you send us
- Personalize your readings (more on how, just below)
- Process your subscription and manage billing through Stripe
- Provide support when you reply HELP or email us
- Keep the service secure and comply with the law
We do not sell your personal data, run ads, or share your data so anyone else can market to you.
AI processing — how your readings are written
In short: an AI writes your readings, and it may keep short factual notes to personalize future ones. You can see or delete those notes anytime.
Your messages and profile details are processed by a foundation-model provider — such as OpenAI or Anthropic — to write your readings and understand your replies.
To make future readings feel more relevant, the AI may save short factual notes based on what you share — for example, “started a new job this month.” These notes are part of your account data.
You can email support@thequerent.xyz at any time to see the notes we’ve saved about you or to have them deleted.
Human review
In short: a person reads your messages only when you ask for help or when something raises a safety concern.
Most messages are handled entirely by our systems. A human may read your messages when they:
- Ask for help or look like a support issue
- Raise a safety concern (for example, a message suggesting you may be in crisis)
We keep this review limited to what’s needed to help you or keep you safe.
Who helps us run Querent
In short: a small set of service providers process data on our behalf, under contract, only to run the service.
We use these providers (“processors”):
| Provider | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Twilio | Delivers our text messages |
| OpenAI and/or Anthropic | AI processing to write readings and understand replies |
| Stripe | Payment processing (they hold your card details; we don’t) |
| Supabase | Database hosting |
| Vercel and Railway | Application hosting |
| Resend | Internal notification email |
Each provider may only use your data to provide their service to us. None of them may use it for their own marketing. And, as stated above, your mobile opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party.
Deletion and retention
In short: STOP halts all texting immediately. Email us to delete your account and data, and we will — except what the law makes us keep.
- Texting STOP immediately halts all Querent messages and cancels any paid subscription. Your account data remains so we can honor your opt-out and restore your account if you text START later.
- To delete your account and data entirely, email support@thequerent.xyzfrom any address and include your phone number. We’ll verify it’s you, then delete your profile, message history, and AI-saved notes, typically within 30 days.
- What we keep after deletion: records the law requires us to retain — mainly payment and tax records held by Stripe and us — and a minimal suppression record of your phone number and opt-out, so we never text you again by mistake.
Security
In short: your data is encrypted in transit, and access is limited to the operator of the service.
We encrypt data in transit, store it with reputable hosting providers, and limit access to the service operator. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and we’ll notify you as required by law if a breach affects you.
Age requirement
In short: Querent is for adults only.
Querent is available only to people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn we have, we’ll delete it.
Your privacy rights
In short: you can ask what we have, ask us to delete it, and we’ll never treat you worse for asking.
Some US states (like California) give residents specific privacy rights. We extend these to all Querent users, wherever you live in the US, as a courtesy:
- Access: ask us what personal information we hold about you.
- Deletion:ask us to delete it (see “Deletion and retention” above).
- No discrimination: we will never degrade your service or charge you more for exercising these rights.
To exercise any of these, email support@thequerent.xyz. We don’t sell or share personal data as those terms are defined under state privacy laws, so there’s nothing to opt out of on that front.
Changes to this policy
In short: if this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll tell you before it takes effect.
We may update this policy as Querent evolves. For material changes, we’ll notify you — by text or on our website — before the change takes effect, and we’ll update the effective date at the top.
